Top 10 Non-Disney Animated Films

[5] . Anastasia (1997)

It’s really interesting coming back to films like Anastasia that people often describe as Disney knock-offs. I was only seven when this came out, and I’m sure like most other kids out there, I thought it was a Disney movie. What’s interesting is coming back years later and seeing everything that separates it from Disney. Not only is Don Bluth’s style easy to pinpoint here, but just the feeling of this entire film makes it stand on its own. Now, obviously none of this movie is true, but they do such a good job on giving it an authentic feel. The artwork in the backgrounds, the textures, the colors, all of it makes it feel like it takes place in its set time period. I love that about it. All in all this film has its faults, but it makes up for it with the absolute, sweeping beauty of it all.

Top 10 Non-Disney Animated Films

[4] . The Prince of Egypt (1998)

I always consider it an achievement when I watch a movie about something I care little or nothing for, but I end up really loving anyway. So many of a persons’ favorite films are films that cater to what they’re interested in, so it really takes something great to make you care about something you otherwise wouldn’t. Not to mention that I’m sure the concept would’ve thrown a lot of people off. A Disney-esque take on the story of Moses with musical numbers? This shouldn’t have worked, but that’s just another reason it’s such an accomplishment. To be fair though, when you have the great Hans Zimmer composing said musical numbers, they’re sure to make much more of an impact. And they do. The character design in this is wonderful as well, very reflective of Egyptian hieroglyphs, and wow can I just mention how much I love all things Egypt? I always have, and it’s so beautifully portrayed here. Obviously not 100% historically accurate, but still gorgeous to look at. This is just one of the crowning achievements in animated film for me, everything about is so powerful.

I did not do this post the justice it deserves. So I reblogged it from myself. If you want a heartbreak, listen to the song. At the same time stare at the black and white gif.

Why is everyone remembering me of Lucy today? STOP IT!!

Gotye feat. Kimbra - Somebody That I Used To Know

But you treat me like a stranger and that feels so rough. No you didn’t have to stoop so low. Have your friends collect your records and then change your number. I guess that I don’t need that though. Now you’re just somebody that I used to know.
